1414ThisissueofReectionsisaterrictimetosharesomeofthoseobservationswithyou.Iwouldliketohighlightsomeofthepatternsofchangewhichhaveoccurredintherecentpast.TherehasbeenA30increaseintheuseofactivestudentlearning.CollegeofNursingstudentsareexperiencingfewerlecturesandmoreactivitiesintheclassroominwhichtheyusefactsorinformationfromtheirpre-classpreparationduringcasestudiesclassdiscussionsandotheractivities.A31increaseinstudentsx19performanceontheATIexaminations.MorestudentsareachievingLevel2performanceontherstattemptwiththisstandardizedtest.Morestrikinglywehaveseena27increaseinstudentswhoachieveLevel3maximumlevelontheseexams.A24increaseinthenumberofstudentsqualifyingforDeanx19sListstatus.Baccalaureatestudentsachievethisstatusiftheyhaveearneda3.0orhighersemesterGPAwhilecarryingatleast12semesterhoursofacademicwork.CollegeofNursingApproximately38increasedparticipationintheCONServiceLearningcourses.StudentsmayengageinServiceLearninginavarietyofsitesthroughoutChicagolandandthenationalorinternationaltrips.RecentexamplesofChicagolandsitesincludetheAmericanIndianServiceCenterJapaneseAmericanServiceCenterJesseBrownVAandLittleBrothersofthePoor.Thisyearx19snationalServiceLearningsiteisinAlabama.Nextyearx19swillbethetriptoHonduras.Studentsalsoservedoutsidethecoursebyparticipatinginback-to-schoolphysicalsthreecommunityhealthfairsandtwolocalushotclinics.HighachievementontheNCLEX-RN.Studentshavescoredconsistentlyabovethestateperformancelevelsforthreeyears.Ourscoreshaveremainedinthelowtomid-90forthepast7quartersHigheremploymentratewithinsixmonthsfollowinggraduationamongourgraduatesthanthatwhichotherdeansinChicagolandarereporting.Thoughgraduatesreportdifcultyndingemploymentimmediatelyfollowinggraduationdeansfromotherschoolsreportmuchhighernumbersofstudentswhoarestillunemployedsixormoremonthsfollowinggraduation.Severalemployershavealsoprovidedverypositivefeedbackaboutthestrengthofourgraduatesattheoutsetoftheiremploymentandaftertwoyears.AcademicReportThestartandendofeachacademicyeararetheperfecttimestoreviewaccomplishmentsandconsiderchangeswhichwillimproveouracademicprograms.x1cHighachievementontheNCLEX-RN.Studentshavescoredconsistentlyabovethestateperformancelevelsforthreeyears.Ourscoreshaveremainedinthelowtomid-90forthepastsevenquartersx1dSandieSoldwischPh.D.APNANP-BCSisterGregoryKrzakEndowedChairforNursingEducationDeanandProfessor12
